Located in Middletown, Connecticut, Wesleyan Potters is a non-profit cooperative guild founded in 1948 to promote the learning and development of skills in crafts. They offer classes in ceramics, weaving and metalsmithing, as well as a wide variety of hands-on workshops with nationally known craftspeople.
I’m a New Haven–based ceramic artist focused on atmospheric firing—wood, soda, and salt. I build forms that explore negative space, balance, and quiet tension. Guided by process, each surface records the movement of flame, ash, and vapor. Alongside my studio practice, I help manage Wet Clay Works a community studio in New Haven. My work aims to create honest, animated forms that invite viewers to look through as much as at the piece.
Thao fell in love with clay at a young age and went on to dabble in many of the arts throughout the years. Ultimately, she came back to her true love and what started as a hobby has become a full-time passion. Her chosen medium reflects her tactile and practical sensibilities. Her products are functional: each piece is meant to be held, used, and enjoyed every day without worry. Thao invites you to elevate your day-to-day with beautiful pieces of art that you interact with.
