Owner and instructor, Derek Thatcher, has a professional background in mental health, tennis instruction, and of course pottery. We are passionate about creating a community for artists, providing a safe-space for adults and children to explore their creativity, and working within the community to support local events and small businesses. Thatcher Clay Studio is a small, independently owned ceramics studio in Newtown, CT, offering group classes, single sessions and private lessons, as well as open studio time and kid's lessons!
Barbara Scioscia-Reed
For me, working with clay is a perfect medium. It allows me to create functional items while developing many artistic skills. With it, I can sculpt and paint while focusing on form, color and function. I fire my work in many different kiln environments (electric, wood, gas, pit) making the final products sometimes delicate and elegant or sometimes rustic and earthy! Each piece is unique.
