As a physics teacher and ceramic artist, I find meaningful fulfillment through my relationship with clay during the creation process.  Due to the clay’s inertial properties, this delicate exchange teeters between chaos and tranquility.   It is through respectful manipulation and vigilant harmony that I am able to create pieces that embrace organic form, function and perception.  My work is grounded in wheel-thrown vases that are altered afterwards by either changing the shape of the form, adding in raw torn sections to the rim or adding in broken pieces of clay with groggy slip.  My glazing techniques consist of using special effect glazes in combination with matte to semi-matte glazes.  It is my intention to create pieces that evoke a sense of terrestrial harmony through texture, primitive shapes and a subdued earthy color palette that brings a soothing, peaceful essence to the home.
